Omega Footwear and award-winning singer Jabulani Hadebe, better known as Sjava, have teamed up to introduce a distinctive line of footwear.
Sjava explained the background behind this fascinating project in an interview with The Citizen. He claimed that he has always genuinely admired Omega.
“I made a partnership proposal to the Omega team. It all began because it was something they were willing to do, he added.
According to Mlindelwa Ndlovu, chief designer at Omega, Sjava’s passion for the brand created a bond that eventually resulted in the collaboration.
“Working with people who truly enjoy and respect your product isn’t it more authentic in a world full of influencers and paid partnerships? It felt like a natural fit when we realised Sjava’s enthusiasm for our shoes, Ndlovu said.
“Differing inspirations and styles”
The Amaphiko hitmaker underlined the designs of his shoe line’s distinctiveness and cultural relevance.
Every design has a unique source of inspiration. Amabhinca’s towel, which has grown to be extremely significant in our society, is shown in the white shoe design.
We also offer more formal designs as well as ones that are more geared towards the hip-hop community. It combines a variety of inspirations and styles.
Sjava went on to say that the new range’s top priorities are comfort and quality.
The two aspects of the shoe that most excite me are its comfort and quality. Since summer is almost here, I prefer the white one more because it has more personality.
Adrian Maree, Managing Director of Omega Footwear, stated that the business has always been about representing South African flair and tenacity in addition to shoes.
Our sandals, which were formerly referred to as the “taxi-man shoe” and a status symbol for the “well-to-do uncle,” have developed into a South African cultural icon that is adored by influencers and celebrities alike. The natural support of celebrities like Sjava, Big Zulu, and Young Stunna—who selected Omega for its genuineness—highlights our brand’s close ties to regional culture.
“The youth can now creatively express their uniqueness and cultural heritage thanks to our sandals, which have become a mainstay in streetwear culture. The power of township culture and its influence on dance, music, and fashion have been highlighted by this growth, which has specifically moulded South African identity.
