After Kabza De Small did not turn up, the organisers of Basha Uhuru said, “We have not lived up to expectations.”

The headliner Kabza De Small did not turn up for the Basha Uhuru event over the weekend, and the festival has admitted to not living up to expectations.

“Constitution Hill accepts accountability for any instances in which we failed to meet the standards we set forth. The Festival Goers’ Disappointment Over Kabza De Small’s Scheduled Performance is Our Apology,“ said Janine Levinia Muthusamy, Marketing and Communications Manager at Constitution Hill, to The Citizen.

Kabza, whose true name is Kabelo Motha, was supposed to play at the festival’s 12th edition on Saturday in Constitution Hill, Johannesburg.

Twenty minutes before the event ended, we received a response from his team informing us that they had a flat tyre and had been delayed at a prior engagement. Through the night, our team had made numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact his team, according to Muthusamy.

The Citizen contacted Kabza’s staff; if a response is received, it will be included.

The award-winning producer has been accused of giving playing at Shimza’s Kunye event priority. However, Kabza has several weekend engagements, therefore it would be illogical to believe that he was unable to fulfil Basha Uhuru only because Shimza had scheduled him.

“I’m a huge fan,” We came early to secure the front row, so I was terribly let down! He went with Kunye!Kimberly Ramolefi left a remark on a festival Instagram image elucidating Kabza’s absence.

This is most likely the true reason you chose not to publish the timetable. Obakhe uBuhle Futshane commented on the same page, saying, “You actually had no idea what time one of your main artists would pitch and so decided to gaslight festivalgoers into a fake go with the flow vibe.”

“It is incredibly impolite to expect festival attendees to arrive unaware of the lineup during the busiest time of year—winter.” It’s crazy that you think it’s appropriate and reasonable to tell your festival attendees about this Kabza flat tyre story. Improve and show your supporters some courtesy.

Sophie Ndaba, Mmabatho Montsho, MÖRDA, Nadia Nakai, FKA Mash, Kujenga, Holly Rey, and Solo Ntsizwa ka Mthimkhulu were among the attendees and performers.

Sjava’s Saturday performance was originally scheduled for around 10 p.m., but it went later than planned.

After Kabza de Small’s crew requested it on the morning of the event, we complied and moved his set from 21:00 to 00:00. As a result, Sjava’s performance had a different time slot. Every artist was kind and complied with our wishes.

Thousands of young people from a variety of cultural backgrounds gather on Constitution Hill for the Basha Uhuru Freedom Festival, one of Gauteng’s largest youth arts events, to celebrate Youth Month in a secure and thought-provoking setting.

“We are pleased with the variety of events that were held during the three days. The music festival was 85% full, while the Creative Conference and Film Festival were both at capacity, according to Muthusamy.

The topic of this year’s event, “30 Years of Creative Freedom,” focused on the involvement of youth in social and creative movements.

Thebe, the Basha Legends award winner from the previous year, gave the gong to the Kwaito group Alaska.
