“I feel relieved and validated by the verdict,” said Jub Jub following the NPA’s dismissal of the charges.

Media personality Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanyane expressed relief that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) had dropped all charges against him while his hit song Ndikhokhele played in the background.

Jub Jub’s statement from Thursday said, “I would like to express my deep gratitude to my legal team for their unwavering commitment to justice and truth.”

The accusation against Maarohanye includes assault, attempted murder, and rape. The accusation was filed in February 2022 by Maarohanye’s ex-girlfriend, who claimed that the acts took place between 2006 and 2009.

Following their social media statements, three more women came forward with identical accusations. Jub Jub then turned himself in to the police and appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court, where he was granted freedom in 2023 after an arrest warrant was issued.

The NPA said in a statement on Thursday that it had made this decision after carefully reviewing the police case docket, the prosecutor’s report and recommendations, as well as information obtained from representations the defence made to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

After the NPA released its statement, Maarohanye expressed relief and vindication.

“This decision gives me and everyone who stood by me a sense of relief and validation. He expressed his gratitude for the heartfelt support he has received.

According to the NPA, it takes all accusations of sexual assault seriously and will act aggressively when necessary. But pointed out that this is only feasible “where there is admissible and relevant evidence that can sustain the charges.”

The NPA statement continued, “Unfortunately, there were no prospects of a successful prosecution in this case upon further assessment of available evidence; hence, the charges were withdrawn.”

Ntsako Baloyi of Ntsako Baloyi, Jub Jub’s attorney, called the accusations “a fabrication” in an interview with The Citizen last year.

“Look, that was never the case. It’s a fiction of accusations, declared Baloyi.

He continued by saying that Jub Jub was unprepared for the charges against him and was fine. At the time, Baloyi declared, “He’s accepted that there’s a plot to bring him down.”
