Will Smith has been confirmed as one of the performers at the next BET Awards, where he is anticipated to debut new music, following the success of the most recent Bad Boys movie.
“Will Smith is truly a global icon, and we are honoured to welcome him back to grace the BET Awards stage,” a statement from BET’s EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy Connie Orlando said. “From his start as a rapper to being a box office king as one of the Bad Boys.”
The Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, California will host the 24th edition of the BET Awards on Sunday, June 30.
Smith last put out a new album, Lost and Found, in 2005. His most recent release was in 2017.
The BET appearance comes after Smith’s Coachella debut in April, when he dressed entirely in Men in Black for J Balvin’s UFO-themed show.
With $10 million and $9.5 million, respectively, the new Bab Boys film broke records for the franchise in Latin America and the Middle East. This has sparked discussions about a possible fifth installment.
Speaking to the media, movie producer Jerry Bruckheimer said, “We’ve had discussions but we want to see how this one did at the box office, and I’m sure we’ll have conversations this week.”
The goal of Makhadzi is Viewer’s Choice.
Tyler and Makhadzi will compete for this year’s BET Awards’ Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act.
In a BET TV show Beats & Rhymes interview, Makhadzi expressed her happiness at receiving exposure on a global scale with Ayanda MVP.
“I’m ecstatic; it seems unbelievable, but it’s true. I’m at a loss for what action or words to take. Every musician requires a nomination for the BET Awards, which is a significant honour, she claimed.
Before travelling to the US to attend the Oscars, the award-winning musician recently held a send-off celebration at Propaganda nightclub in Tshwane.
“This was the nicest present ever—my send-off celebration during my birthday month. I appreciate your support in this cold, Makhadzi remarked.
“Thank you for visiting; I did accept your blessings. I am emotional. We intend to return [it] home. I think.
Makhadzi was chosen to perform at the inauguration of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
One of the top contenders for this year’s BET Awards is Doja Cat, while Focalistic of South Africa is also a nominee in the Best International Act category.
Her video Agora Hills received nominations for Video of the Year and Viewer’s Choice awards. She was also nominated for Best Female Hip-hop Artist and Best Female R&B/pop Artist.
