Rumours that actress Phindile Gwala-Ngandu had been sworn in as an MP for the uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party had to be put down.
This comes after she went to the MP swearing-in event on Tuesday with Bishop Nokwethemba Mtsweni.
We would want to provide clarification on some recent assumptions and rumours. In a show of solidarity, actress Phindile Gwala went to the swearing-in event with Bishop Nokwethemba Mtsweni, an MK Party member who is also her close friend and spiritual mother, according to a statement the actress’ team made on Tuesday.
Tuesday saw the 58 MK Party members take the oath of office as MPs, including the Bishop.
But we’ve noticed that some people have taken this to mean that she was sworn in as a member of parliament herself.
“We want to make it clear that the person taking the oath of office at the ceremony was not Phindile Gwala. Although we are grateful for your attention and support, we respectfully ask that this clarification be acknowledged in order to prevent future misunderstandings.
Born in KwaZulu-Natal, Bishop Mtsweni was married to Dr. Adam Mtsweni, the founder of the Apostolic Faith Mission Maokeng branch in Tembisa, who passed away in 2021.
The message ended with Gwala-thanks Ngandu for the interest shown in her aspirations and her anticipation of carrying on with her career in show business.
MK Party in the legislative body
Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, the daughter of former president Jacob Zuma, is currently an MP.
When asked what to do next, Zuma-Sambudla responded to reporters that she and other MK party members would wait for orders from her father, the party’s leader.
