The former CEO of M-Net and executive of MultiChoice Group, Nkateko Mabaso, is still receiving tributes.
Mabaso passed suddenly earlier this week, and it is currently unknown what caused him to die.
The CEO of MultiChoice SA’s General Entertainment division, Nomsa Philiso, expressed her profound sadness at Mabaso’s loss.
She emphasised his significant contribution to the development of well-known plays like The Queen and Isibaya.
Mabaso was an important part of major events like the Channel O Awards and the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards (DMVCAs) in addition to regular programming.
I convey the news of Nkateko Mabaso’s passing with deep regret. In the M-Net world, Nkateko, affectionately known to most as NK, was a trailblazer who held a variety of positions and played a crucial part in the development and execution of our Mass & Middle market offerings, the most famous of which is Mzansi Magic.
“NK will always have a special place in our hearts for the work he did on classic shows like Isibaya and The Queen as well as events like the Channel O Awards, DMVCAs, and many more. His influence will live on forever.” Philiso wished comfort to his family, friends, and coworkers during this extremely trying time.
There are several tributes to Nkateko Mabaso.
Social media has been used by admirers and other celebrities, such as Thapelo Mokoena, to honour Mabaso.
Thapelo Mokoena posted on Instagram on Friday, saying, “In Mabaso, I gained a brother, an industry big bro, and a friend in the process.”
“Knowing that you were a part of the back-end magic that created and set up my most exciting works made it even sweeter,” he continued. It’s still difficult to believe that you’re gone, and it’s quite confused.
“You were always a reliable person and a mentor in this industry’s business. A legend in the field is at rest. My brother, you will continue to be praised for a very long time. Peace be with you, King.
Mabaso leaves behind his parents, Xithlangoma Bob and Lizzy Mabaso, as well as his wife, Mathapelo, and son, Tshimologo.
