Onezwa Mbola, a South African chef and content creator, has been threatened with legal action by US-based content creator Nara Smith.
This comes after Mbola claimed that Smith had been benefitting from the theft of her content ideas and style.
“I’ve been seeing a very well-known content creator utilise my ideas for months now. They keep using them to attract views.
That would be alright, but where she is, they are compensated for views, whereas we in South Africa do not. Thus, she has been profiting from stealing my work, Mbola stated in a video a few days prior, omitting Smith’s name.
The letter from Onezwa Mbola to Nara Smith
Smith has responded by writing to Mbola and requesting that the accusations, which she refers to as “entirely false,” be publicly retracted.
Smith said in her letter that the accusations were false and would harm her reputation.
She asserted that she has evidence on TikTok to prove that the disputed videos are not her own works.
“Your false accusations have caused significant harm to my reputation, both personally and professionally,” she continued. This email is a formal notification that I will have to take legal action for defamation of character against you if you do not immediately take down your statements and stop making these false accusations.
“I implore you to treat this as a serious issue and to act quickly to prevent more legal repercussions. I anticipate a swift reaction from you and a public retractions of your incorrect statements.
