Major League DJz, twin brothers, are bringing their Balcony Mix Africa to Durban July following a great performance in New York City a few days earlier.
Known by their stage names, Bandile and Banele Mbere, better known as Major League DJz, are two of the party hosts at this year’s Durban July. They will provide guests with a musical experience that is limited to New York.
A musical journey through dance music with some of the greatest and most exclusive tracks on the continent is what The Balcony Mix Africa is all about.
The two performed some of the most popular Amapiano songs in the US over the weekend, giving New Yorkers a taste of South African music.
For the Durban July, they are now bringing that experience to KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
Some of the hottest talents in Amapiano right now, like Kabza De Small, Kelvin Momo, and Sun El Musician, are on the lineup. Phase one of the ticket sales for the performance has already sold out, indicating a high level of anticipation.
Recently, Major League DJz and US rapper Wiz Khalifa dropped a track.
Amapiano’s global expansion
Amapiano achieved over 1.4 billion Spotify plays in 2023.
Due to the genre’s impact on South Africa’s music scene and beyond, Amapiano fever has swept the globe, igniting everything from dancing competitions to creative fusions and collaborations.

Amapiano’s most significant Spotify stats throughout the previous ten years include:
o 345k%+ growth in 2023 compared to 2014.
· More than 855 million as of now in 2024.
· A gain in exports of at least 153,000% in 2023 compared to 2014.
· An 87% increase in female artists between 2022 and 2023
o Forty percent of listeners are in the 18–24 age range.

The 128th running of the renowned event, with the theme “Ride the Wave,” will take place at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on July 6. Fans are invited to attend.
