The late Mpho Sebeng gets removed from the list of nominees for the KZN Film and TV Awards.

The late Mpho Sebeng has been removed from the list of nominees for the Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and Television Awards.

With a special emphasis on KZN, the awards honour exceptional accomplishments and excellence in the South African film and television industries.

Mpho had a nomination for Best Actor, Television or Film.
The organisation revealed in an official statement that it had found Sebeng was not a resident of KwaZulu Natal.

“We regret to inform you that there was a mistake in the Best Actor for Film or Television category by the judging panel and auditor. We have discovered that Mpho Sebeng, one of the nominees, does not actually reside in KwaZulu-Natal. His name has been taken out of the top four nominees because of this.

The announcement also stated that there has been no change to the list of nominees for this category.

“Although we regret this oversight, there has already been four nominations for actors in this category, so there is no significant change to the list of nominees.” There are now just three candidates left.

In May of this year, the actor, 31, lost his life in a car accident in Potchefstroom, North West.

Prior to landing a big part in Mzansi Magic’s telenovela Ring of Lies, Sebeng made his television debut on Justice for All and Zero Tolerance. For this portrayal, he was nominated for Best Actor at the 2018 South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas).

His last creation
Showmax published a teaser for his last project, 016FM, and his final interview a few days ago.

Sebeng discussed in the interview how he became even more appreciative of the Vaal people and community while working on the show.

In the show, two DJs compete in an on-air competition in an attempt to keep their cherished community radio station in the Vaal from going out of business. They have to deal with a violent syndicate that has infiltrated the station along the way.

Sebeng appeared in the programme with well-known actors as Sello Motloung, Nthati Moshesh, Sophie Ndaba, Mapula Molefe, Mapaseka Koetle, and others.
