Bad Boys’ fourth installment was so successful at the box office that speculation about a fifth installment has already begun.
Film producer Jerry Bruckheimer told Deadline, “We’ve had discussions, but we want to see how this one did at the box office. I’m sure we’ll have conversations this week.”
Opening projections were crushed by Ride or Die.
In the fourth installment, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s Miami police team, Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, are tasked with clearing the name of their late captain Conrad Howard, a police officer who has been connected to a drug cartel.
Joe Pantoliano, an American actor, played Howard. In the third, 2020 release of the movie, the police captain, to whom the lead police team reported, passed away.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die exceeded initial box office expectations in its first week of release, grossing $104.6 million worldwide, including $48.6 million from overseas ticket sales.
The movie, which had $19.3 million in sales throughout Europe, was mostly driven by the European market and was directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.
new records for the region
With $4.9M, the UK leads the 60 markets that were issued this session. Next at $4.2 million was Mexico, then Germany at $3.7 million and Saudi Arabia at $3.7 million (the first-ever Hollywood premiere in Riyadh that generated profits).
France brought home $3.1 million to complete the Top 5.
With $10M and $9.5M, respectively, the movie broke regional records for the Bad Boys franchise in Latin America and the Middle East.
According to movie producer Bruckheimer, the figures represent what consumers want to see.
“If you create something that the public is interested in watching, they will go see it. It really is that easy. They will align themselves if it benefits them. I hope that was known to all of us. Everybody gets hits sometimes, but not every time.
“They adore these characters, Will (Smith) and Martin (Lawrence), as well as their exploits and life experiences. They desire something different, but they want the same sensation. Bruckheimer asserted, “I think we’re very fortunate and we gave the audience exactly that.”
Among the many films Bruckheimer has produced include the Beverly Hills Cop series, Gone in 60 Seconds, and Enemy of the State.
