“Experiencing such immense pain was difficult,” Nomcebo Zikode said of the KZN tornado.

Over 7,000 houses in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) have been impacted by a severe tornado, resulting in significant damage to six districts within the state.

Twelve people are said to have died in the most recent tornado, and the damage is expected to cost more than R1.3 billion.

Internationally well-known artist Nomcebo Zikode has intervened in the midst of this chaos to offer the tornado victims in Tongaat, KZN, the much-needed comfort they need.

Zikode Nomcebo Foundation
Nomcebo stated to The Citizen that her goal in establishing the Nomcebo Zikode Foundation was to assist the underprivileged.

Given how awful this incident was, I thought it was critical that the foundation provide assistance as soon as possible. I believed it was essential to offer my assistance as soon as I could. She continued, “The Nomcebo Zikode Foundation is offering relief to those affected by donating food parcels and blankets.”

The artist expressed her sadness and touchment by the living conditions of the Tongaat people.

“It is really regrettable that this calamity has caused homes to be lost by individuals who are already less fortunate. Being in the midst of such pain and loss was really difficult, but I’m glad my presence helped to lighten the atmosphere a little.

“I hope they get their lives back together soon.”
Nomcebo stated that the community’s kindness towards her touched her despite the difficult circumstances.

The fact that people were pleased to see me humbles me, and I sincerely hope that they will soon begin to reconstruct their lives. A spirit of happiness and hope pervaded the room as I was given a loving embrace.

“Even though I don’t perform this work for people to applaud or reply, this humbles me greatly. I take action because I have a strong desire for change. I made a self-promise to address poverty as soon as I could because I witnessed so many people living in it as a child, the woman remarked.

The singer of the song “iZono Zami” expressed her willingness to work with other organisations. Still, she had to take separate action because of how urgent the situation was.

“I thought it was preferable for me to handle things myself because of time constraints. I wanted to react to the calamity as soon as possible, so I decided to offer help. I certainly urge more businesses and people to offer assistance.

Nomcebo stated that she will soon reveal her larger ambitions for her charity.
